Tierra del Fuego National Park
Tierra del Fuego National Park is the southern most protected area in Argentina — a place where mountains, forests, and the sea meet in a stunning natural harmony.
Accessible via National Route No. 3, about 11 km southwest of Ushuaia, the excursion takes you through remarkable sites such as Río Pipo, Monte Susana, Lago Acigami, the Alakush Visitor Center, Laguna Verde, and Bahía Lapataia, where the Pan-American Highway comes to its end. Along the way, we’ll make several stops for photography and a short walk, depending on weather conditions.
The park’s topography is impressively diverse, featuring a landscape of rugged mountains, winding rivers, deep valleys, and serene lakes that eventually lead to the Beagle Channel coastline.
Throughout the year, visitors can admire the beauty of the sub-Antarctic forest. The most frequently seen mammal is the native red fox (zorro colorado fueguino). The park’s blend of marine and mountain environments is also home to a wide variety of bird species, from the cachaña (a local parakeet) and the majestic Magellanic woodpecker, to the rayadito and the Patagonian thrush. The park’s emblem, the striking white-and-gray upland goose (cauquén caranca), symbolizes the unique spirit of Tierra del Fuego National Park.
